There is a growing recognition that diversity and inclusion are driving indicators of excellence in academic medicine, and there is an increasing need to measure institutional climate and culture around these factors.

The Diversity Engagement Survey was developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges as a tool to measure institutional climate and culture through the lens of diversity and inclusion.

“We are using this tool to assess the climate across UNMC, and hope that all faculty, students and staff will participate,” said Susan Swindells, M.B.B.S., director of the UNMC Equity Office. “The survey is only 22 questions, so it does not take long to complete, and responses are anonymous. Using this survey will allow us to compare our results to other academic health centers and will help us assess our strengths and identify areas for improvement.”
