Yaffe ran N.S. Yaffe Printing Co. along with his brother, Sol. The business was established by their father in 1906.
Steve McWhorter, president of the Hattie B. Munroe Foundation, called Yaffe a strong advocate for children with disabilities.
“As a member of the Hattie B. Munroe operating and foundation boards for more than 40 years, Irv Yaffe was the ultimate advocate for programs and services that offered the opportunity to enhance the quality of life for children with disabilities and their families,” McWhorter said.
Daughter Joan Yaffe said that her father was a big believer in giving back to the community.
“He was particularly proud of these two institutions, always,” she said.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Medical Corps, Yaffe was particularly proud of having played basketball for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
In addition to his service on the Hattie B. Munroe Foundation and MMI boards, he served on several community and statewide boards, including the District 66 School Board for 24 years, the board of directors of the Jewish Community Center and the Nebraska Board of Education.
Irv was a great guy! He always had good things to say about the materials produced by MMI and his printing background made it mean so much! He also was quick with a quip and made the MMI Board meetings fun 🙂
