Hank Bounds, Ph.D., and Michael Martin, Ph.D., two of the four candidates for the position of president of the University of Nebraska, will visit UNMC on Wednesday.
“These candidates’ visits are an unparalleled opportunity to meet and hear from the people who are in consideration to run our university system,” said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. “I would encourage all members of the university community to come and hear what they have to say, to ask questions, and to embrace this chance to engage with these fine leaders.
“Please join me in meeting these people and welcoming them warmly to our campus, remembering always that we’re not just assessing them, but they’re assessing us,” he said. “We need to make them feel very warmly welcome, so that they understand what ‘Nebraska nice’ really means.”
The times for the two visits are:
10:30 a.m., Sorrell Center, Room 1005: Michael Martin, Ph.D., chancellor of the Colorado State University System.
2:30 p.m., Sorrell Center, Room 1005: Hank Bounds, Ph.D., commissioner of higher education for the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.
Candidate Sally Rockey, Ph.D., deputy director for extramural research at the National Institutes of Health, will visit Dec. 16, while George Ross, Ph.D., president of Central Michigan University, visited campus on Nov. 18.
UNMC’s James Linder, M.D., is serving as interim president for the university until a candidate is hired.
