Campus, clinical leaders to discuss Ebola response

UNMC campus and clinical leaders will participate in a conference Nov. 5 discussing “Ebola — What We Know and What We’ve Learned.”

Topics will include the way the virus is transmitted, how it’s being treated, the strict safety measures currently in place at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, how our teams are working collaboratively with international health experts, as well as other areas of interest to the UNMC community.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. at the Sorrell Center, Room 3002. There will be live web streaming of the discussion to all campuses.

Speakers will include:

• UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
• Bradley Britigan, M.D., dean, UNMC College of Medicine.
• Ali Khan, M.D., M.P.H., dean, UNMC College of Public Health and former director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
• Philip Smith, M.D., professor, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease, and medical director of the Biocontainment Unit.
• Angela Hewlett, M.D., assistant professor, internal medicine/infectious disease, and associate medical director of the Biocontainment Unit.
• John J. Lowe, Ph.D., assistant professor, UNMC Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health; associate director of research, Biocontainment Unit, director of public health training and exercise programs, Center for Preparedness Education, UNMC College of Public Health.
• Shelly Schwedhelm, director of Emergency Department, Trauma and Emergency Preparedness at Nebraska Medicine.
