Center for Continuing Education earns recognition

The UNMC Center for Continuing Education (CCE) recently achieved “Accreditation with Commendation” by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

“The Center for Continuing Education is to be congratulated on achieving this recognition,” said Gerald Moore, M.D., senior associate dean for academic affairs for the College of Medicine. “The College of Medicine values the contributions that have been made by the center as it provides a valuable service for the health care providers in the state.”

The “Accreditation with Commendation” designation is awarded to CME providers that demonstrate compliance with all 19 accreditation criteria, including criteria such as:

• Implementing educational strategies to remove barriers to change.
• Demonstrating efforts to ensure collaboration and cooperation with other stakeholders.
• Actively promoting improvements in health care.

“The designation acknowledges that the UNMC CCE is a learning organization and a change agent for UNMC physicians and other health care providers,” said Lois Colburn, executive director of the center. “In addition, the ACCME accreditation recognizes the Center for Continuing Education’s engagement not only with the clinical enterprise, but also the surrounding community — as well as the center’s support of health care provider learning and change as part of a continuous quality improvement system.”

The UNMC Center for Continuing Education is one of this country’s oldest continually accredited CME providers. In the last fiscal year, the center certified more than 700 activities with just under 45,000 participants.

The accreditation is valid through though July 31, 2020.
