Approximately 60 people attended a community reception May 21 at El Museo Latino in south Omaha to meet University of Nebraska Medical Center Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold.
Representatives from Girls Inc., the Kroc Center, Salvation Army, the Latino Peace Officers Association, Mexican Consulate and many others attended the two-hour event.
“The only way to learn about your community is by reaching out, answering questions and hearing your comments,” Dr. Gold said.

“The meeting was a great opportunity to connect community residents and advocates with our new leader,” said Athena Ramos, program coordinator for UNMC’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities. “But more importantly, it was the beginning of what we hope will be an ongoing dialogue about how best to serve our community’s needs.”
