At the School of Allied Health Professions annual awards ceremony and forum on evidenced-based medicine, three individuals were honored:

Kathleen Volkman, assistant professor of physical therapy education, was honored for Excellence in Teaching. She is pictured at right with Greg Karst, Ph.D., assistant dean for academic and student affairs, and Kim Michael, RSTE program director and Joseph & Darlene Anderson Distinguished Professor.
- Dennis Strauss, M.D., a 1968 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine and chair of the School of Allied Health Professions Capital Campaign Committee since its inception in 2010, was recognized for his Outstanding Service to the SAHP. He is pictured, at right with Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., senior associate dean of the SAHP and Prof. Michael.
- Ka-Chun (Joseph) Siu, Ph.D., assistant professor of physical therapy education was honored for Excellence in Research. Dr. Siu missed the presentation due to the death of his mother, who was also honored with a photo and a moment of silence among those in attendance.

Casey Diekmann, Pharm.D., and Eric Gall, Pharm.D., were named Preceptors of the Year at the College of Pharmacy Scholastic Honors Convocation on May 9. The Preceptor of the Year Award is given annually to a volunteer faculty member who in the opinion of the senior pharmacy class contributed significantly to their practical/experiential education and training and who exemplifies the professional values and standards of a model pharmacy practitioner. Drs. Diekmann and Gall are UNMC alums and practice at Lincoln Surgical Hospital.

Ira Combs, community liaison nurse coordinator for the UNMC College of Public Health, has been appointed to the new Citizen Complaint Review Board by Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert. Combs, who was selected out of 165 applicants, will represent the northwest precinct. Members were selected from each of the city's four police precincts and will go through eight hours of orientation and training with the city law, human relations and police departments. Board members will sign a confidentiality agreement but will provide results of their reviews with the citizens who file complaints. The board also will provide a quarterly public report. Combs' appointment began May 1.
