Thayer, a clinical dietician and business owner, served for 14 years on The Nebraska Medical Center board. She was a founding member of the board when The Nebraska Health System (now The Nebraska Medical Center) was created in 1997.
“Jan Thayer was an accomplished professional who had a great impact on The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC,” said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. “She will be missed, and we look forward to honoring her and her family at the ribbon cutting of the Thayer Family Patient Waiting Area when the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center opens.”
In a 2011 resolution praising her work, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents noted Thayer’s “keen knowledge of health care, particularly related to assisted living facilities,” called her “a valuable asset to the board,” and praised her “high level of commitment to the success of this important partnership between the university and the hospital.”
