Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I work in the special collections department of the McGoogan Library. Recently, I have completed the shifting of all the library journals from the sixth floor to the seventh floor, and I am currently on the library space task force to determine how this space can best be used. Currently, my main project is working with the collection of the late Wolf Wolfensberger, M.D, a world-renowned advocate for the developmentally disabled and former Nebraska Psychiatric Institute researcher. The collection is one of a kind because it is one man’s life work toward bettering the quality of life for the developmentally disabled through training and social role valorization (the enhancement of a social role held by a person who is devalued in society). Life is much better for many people because of Dr. Wolfensberger, and the library is fortunate to have acquired his collection. I have been unpacking the collection for several months and I expect processing to begin early July.

“Leadership” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed an example of leadership at UNMC.
I have seen so much leadership at this institution, and not just in the library. With that being said, I would like to put a spotlight on Marie Reidelbach. Marie held the library together as the interim library director after the retirement of Nancy Woelfl, Ph.D., last June. I don’t know how she did it, but she took charge and was doing her job, plus the very demanding work of the library director. Marie did this for six months and I admire her work ethic and drive.
