UNMC Career Day gives students from 47 rural high schools information on health professions

The University of Nebraska Medical Center Student Association for Rural Health, made up of students from rural areas studying at UNMC, held its eleventh Career Day September 18. The event is co-sponsored by the Rural Health Education Network and the Nebraska Area Health Education Center program.

The event introduced 215 high school students to the multitude of careers available in the health sciences.

Students from 47 Nebraska schools learned about opportunities in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, physician assistant, physical therapy, clinical laboratory science, public health, radiation sciences, and other fields. They attended three tailored 25-minute interactive sessions of their choosing with various health professionals.

The SARH Career Day is one of many UNMC efforts to assist in “Growing Our Own” future health professionals for Nebraska.
