The University Medical Associates, the physician group practice of the
University of Nebraska Medical Center, invites the public to its free Winter
Health Tune Up, event Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 to 11 a.m., at its location
in the Clarkson West Medical Center building at 144th and Center streets
near the Oak View Mall.
The open house will feature a variety of screenings, including blood
pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, vision, glaucoma, prostate cancer and
hearing screenings. Most of the screenings are free, but there is a minimal
charge for some.
Free flu shots will be available to those at high risk of developing
complications from the flu (including those over 65 and those who are immunosuppressed,
have lung disease and asthma, diabetes, and heart disease). Physical therapists
will do grip strength testing and balance testing.
Free massages will be provided by the UNMC Lifestyle Enhancement Center.
Childrens activities will include a juggler, face-painting, proper hand
washing demonstrations and coloring activities. Children can bring their
teddy bears or dolls for free check-ups. Door prizes will be given.
Nutrition information will be available, including visual demonstrations
of fat content of certain foods. The Cosmopolitan-UNMC College of Nursing
Mobile Nursing Center will provide screenings in its mobile unit.
The event is sponsored by UMA, the physician group practice of 450 UNMC
physicians.
