Women are invited to attend the third annual Omaha Womens Health and
Wellness Conference — Empowering Women for Healthy Living — on Friday,
Oct. 20, from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Omaha Marriott Regency, 10220
Regency Circle.
The conference will include about 25 educational health and wellness
exhibits and screenings, continental breakfast and luncheon, and several
keynote and breakout speakers. The conference is sponsored by the University
of Nebraska Medical Center Olson Center for Womens Health, the University
of Nebraska at Omaha, Wellness Council of the Midlands and Nebraska Health
System.
The cost of the conference is $30, which includes breakfast, lunch,
lectures and exhibits. Limited scholarships are available and provided
by the Womens Fund of Greater Omaha for women with financial restrictions.
Nurses can receive continuing education credits for an additional $30.
Health screenings will be available for cholesterol, glaucoma and bone
density.
Breakfast keynote speaker is Nebraska State Sen. Deborah Suttle. The
title of her speech will be, Women: Beyond the Reproductive System. Humorist
and registered nurse, Sharon Cheney of Lincoln, also will speak at the
luncheon. The title of her speech is, Celebrating Me.
Women participating in the conference will be able to choose two
of eight afternoon educational sessions.

· Menopause: Are Heart Disease and Weak Bones Our Only
Worries?, Victoria Maclin, M.D., of UNMC/NHS;
· Arthritis: General Considerations and Update on Local
Research, James ODell, M.D. of UNMC/NHS;
· High Self-esteem: Key for a Healthy Life, Monica
Traystman, Ph.D., Healthy Spirit, Inc.
Sessions to choose from at 2:15 p.m. are:
· Important Herbs and Nutraceuticals for a Womans Health
and Wellness, Teri Gabel, Pharm.D., of UNMC;
· Money Savvy Skills for Women, Holly Murphy-Barstow,
Wells Fargo Investments;
· Fad Diet Fallacies, Toni Nichols, R.D., L.M.N.T.,
of NHS;
· Creating a Personalized Plan for Psychological Well-being,
Mark Purviance, Ph.D., NHS Psychology.
