UNMC Olson Center for Women’s Health invites women, men to attend seminar on Making Sense of Midlife Changes’ May 8 at Omaha Marriott Regency

The Olson Center for Womens Health at the University of Nebraska Medical
Center invites the public to a seminar on menopause titled, Making Sense
of Midlife Changes, on Thursday, May 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Omaha
Marriott in Regency, 10220 Regency Circle. The seminar will include dinner
and keynote speaker Terri Malucci, a humorist from Boulder, Colo., and
author of Menopause Pink. The title of her presentation is Mid-life
Reflections of Wisdom and Humor.

Men as well as women are invited to learn about the early signs of menopause,
how to manage symptoms, what the current recommendations are for taking
hormone replacement therapy and what men need to know about menopause,
as well as a health care maintenance session for men.

The $20 registration fee includes lecture, keynote presentation and
dinner. The fee for nurses who want to earn 3.4 nursing contact hours is
$35.

Lectures for women:

· Menopause in 2003, presented by Sonja Kinney, M.D., UNMC Department
of Obstetrics and Gynecology, will talk about physical and emotional changes
related to menopause and information from current studies on hormone replacement
therapy and menopause.

· Its Never Too Late to Take Good Care of Yourself Recommended
Screening Tests for Women, presented by Sara Nollette, advanced practice
registered nurse, UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, will discuss
recommended health screenings

Lectures for men:

· Menopausal Concerns: What Men Need to Know, presented by Robert
Olesh, M.D., UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, who will define
menopause and answer questions to help men understand their partners menopausal
concerns

· Health Care Maintenance for Men, presented by John Ries, physician
assistant, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, who will discuss strategies
for health maintenance and prevention in males and what men need to do
to maintain their health as they age
