The family of a well-known University of Nebraska Medical Center College
of Dentistry alumnus, Doug Eversoll, D.D.S., has established an endowed
fund to benefit students of the colleges orthodontics program. Dr. Eversoll,
who died last June at the age of 43, had an orthodontic practice in Lincoln
and a satellite clinic in York.
The Dr. Douglas K. Eversoll Memorial Fund was established through the
University of Nebraska Foundation to recognize Dr. Eversoll’s contributions
to orthodontics and encourage students to become involved in professional
organizations and activities, and volunteer their time. It will give UNMC
College of Dentistry orthodontic students an opportunity to attend local,
state, regional and national meetings.
Friends, family and colleagues have donated more than $8,000 to the
fund. A goal of $75,000 is set to fully fund the endowment and make it
a self-sustained benefit to students.
Dr. Eversoll received his doctor of dental surgery degree from UNMC
in 1984 and his orthodontic post-graduate degree in 1986.
The Eversoll family said the fund reflects Dr. Eversoll’s life themes
of building group strength through leadership. Dr. Eversoll demonstrated
leadership qualities at an early age through membership in Boy Scouts,
school clubs, and student councils. He had many professional memberships
and was an active community volunteer.
He served as president of the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists and
belonged to the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental
Association, the Nebraska Dental Association, the Lincoln Orthodontic Society
and the Lincoln District Dental Association.
Doug was passionate about supporting organized dentistry, notably his
own specialty of orthodontics, said Peter Spalding, D.D.S., associate
professor and chair of the UNMC College of Dentistry Department of Growth
and Development. The fund honors Doug’s enthusiasm for his profession
and inspires future generations of orthodontists to the same level of commitment.
It supports our students’ early involvement in orthodontic organizations.
