UNMC College of Dentistry Student from Lincoln Rewarded for Research Work at National Symposium

University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry senior dentistry

student Denise Claridge, of Lincoln, recently received one of six awards

at the Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis. Claridge received

the award for most outstanding presentation in clinical research.

Her winning poster presentation compared the fit of two differently

prepared porcelain materials used to prepare crowns for teeth. The presentation

received first place last year in the dental division of the UNMC College

of Dentistrys 33rd Annual Student Scientific Program.

It was an honor, Claridge said about the experience. It was an incredible

weekend put on for students. Here the focus was on student research.

It was neat to be with 75 to 80 of my peers, to see what other people are

doing and to learn about other dental schools.  It was a fantastic

experience.

The symposium featured 26 oral presentations and 65 poster presentations

by dental students from across the United States and Canada.

The symposium for dental students and graduate trainees is sponsored

by the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society and the University of Tennessee

College of Dentistry and grants from the National Institute of Dental and

Craniofacial Research, Procter & Gamble Co. and Viral Antigens Inc.
