The Bridge to Care Refugee Program will collect and then distribute used eyeglasses to refugees during the World Refugee Day on June 21. The program is seeking about 500 pairs of glasses.
Bridge to Care is an interprofessional, student-run/community-engaged organization coordinated by the Service Learning Academy in the UNMC College of Public Health.
With the help of UNMC’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, the students will catalogue the glasses by prescription and size.
Old glasses can be sent to Ruth Margalit, M.D., director of the Service Learning Academy and associate professor of health promotion, social & behavioral health, campus zip 4375. They can also be placed in a box near the second floor mailboxes in the College of Public Health.
