New UNMC Research Handbook now available online

The new UNMC Research Handbook is now complete and available online.

“The handbook was designed with the hopes it could rapidly answer most of the basic questions the research community has,” said Jennifer Larsen, M.D., vice chancellor for research. “Using a searchable, web-based document, it will be updated continuously as resources change.”

The book is designed to be a resource for researchers, trainees and administrators, with sections on important internal contacts, regulatory guidelines for conducting human subject or animal research, conflict of interest reporting, links to funding sources, and many other research resources and tools.

“The Research Handbook is a collaborative project which has involved dozens of individuals from throughout the research enterprise,” said Chris Kratochvil, M.D., associate vice chancellor for clinical research, who oversaw the project over the past six months. “I am very grateful to the team, who put forth significant efforts to create this resource.”

The constantly expanding research landscape at UNMC made the book critical, he said.

“Keeping investigators and research teams informed about the rapidly expanding resources available at UNMC is the goal,” he said. “As evidenced by the breadth of resources described in the handbook, we are an academic health center with a rich and growing array of research resources.”

To be sure the handbook is meeting the needs of the research community, anyone with suggestions for additions or corrections should contact the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. “I encourage anyone with suggestions to contact me with your input,” Dr. Kratochvil said. “It will certainly be an ongoing work, evolving as we grow and change.”

Congratulations, Dr. Kratochvil and Dr. Larsen, on creating a very important resource for our faculty and staff. This will be a very helpful touchstone that we will highlight for new research faculty at the Essential Guide for New Faculty Success each year
