“Animal Planet” host and leading conservationist Jeff Corwin will headline the 2014 Nebraska Science Festival on April 25.
Gearing up for its second year, the Nebraska Science Festival — scheduled for April 24-27 – will feature an array of science- and technology-related activities. For the first time, it will include programming in Lincoln as the festival builds toward being a statewide celebration.
On April 25, Corwin will present at Joslyn Museum’s Witherspoon Concert Hall in Omaha. His 7:30 p.m. presentation is free to the public (but requires a reserved ticket) and is suitable for ages 12 and older. Corwin fills the void left when Adam Savage, co-host and executive producer of Discovery Channel’s “Mythbusters,” cancelled due to a change in his production schedule.
Tickets for the general admission seating to Corwin’s presentation will be released on Feb. 22 on a first-come, first-served basis. To obtain your tickets (a maximum of two per person), stop by the Joslyn Museum between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
If necessary, any remaining tickets will be distributed Saturday, March 1 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the museum. Check nescifest.com and the NE SciFest Facebook page to see if any tickets remain. Although the presentation is free, tickets are required for admittance when doors open April 25 at 7 p.m.
An Emmy-winning television host, author and biologist, Corwin has worked for the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems around the globe. Through education and awareness, he believes these vital elements of our planet can be conserved for future generations.
For nearly 20 years, Corwin has produced and hosted a variety of popular television series broadcast on networks like Disney Channel, Discovery Channel, NBC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel and the Food Network.
Presently, he is executive producer and host of the award-winning weekly series, “Ocean Mysteries,” airing weekends on ABC stations nationally. Each week on “Ocean Mysteries,” Corwin opens viewers’ eyes to the extraordinary stories that lie beneath our oceans while enhancing our understanding about our ocean's life-sustaining value to the planet.
In addition to exploring the state of our planet's wildlife and ecology, he serves as an environmental and science correspondent for CNN, CBS and NBC news. Corwin’s wildlife and conservation work has been regularly featured on a variety of broadcasting networks including CNN, Fox, Good Morning America, The Today Show, CBS Morning Show, The Ellen Show, Rachael Maddows, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brian, Regis and Kelly and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Beyond television, Corwin has partnered with the Wittaker Center to produce the film “Expedition Chesapeake,” and with Rodale to publish the book “100 Heartbeats.” Beyond print, Corwin has launched Jeff Corwin's Explorer Series, which consists of interactive, multi-media ebooks focusing on wildlife. He also is the author of “Living on the Edge: Amazing Relationships in the Natural World.”
Presented by the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Nebraska Science Festival is a collaboration of organizations and individuals interested in the advancement of science literacy. The Science Festival is designed to make science accessible, interactive, relevant and fun for kids and adults alike.
