Finalist for College of Dentistry dean position on campus today

Scott De Rossi, D.M.D.
Scott De Rossi, D.M.D., a finalist to become the dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry, will be visiting the College of Dentistry in Lincoln today.

He will visit the Omaha campus on Wednesday.

Dr. De Rossi is the chair of the department of oral health and diagnostic sciences and a professor at Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine.

Dr. De Rossi earned his D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

He completed a Certificate in Oral Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine.

Dr. De Rossi has special interests in temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) and muscle pain disorders as well as burning mouth syndrome and oral complications of cancer therapy. He has received numerous awards for teaching and innovative approaches to interdisciplinary care.

Dr. De Rossi served as the director of oral diagnosis and emergency care as well as director of the oral medicine residency and later as assistant dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

He has been teaching at Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine since 2007 and also holds joint appointments as professor in the department of otolaryngology/head and neck surgery and department of medicine, section of dermatology.

Finalists Charles Shuler, D.M.D., and Janet Guthmiller, D.D.S., visited campus earlier this month.

There are no public presentations scheduled for the candidates’ visits.

John Reinhardt, D.D.S., who has served as dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry for 13 years, announced in June that he will step down from his post on June 30, 2014.
