Luncheon to honor UNK’s McBride will support UNMC research

The University of Nebraska at Kearney is showing its love for its former athletic director, Jon McBride — as well as its respect for the researchers of UNMC.

McBride, who is currently battling Parkinson’s disease, will be honored with a Parkinson’s disease Awareness pre-game luncheon and program on Saturday, Oct. 19. Proceeds of the event will benefit UNMC’s Parkinson’s research.

McBride will address the crowd during the event. UNK Chancellor Douglas Kristensen and John Bertoni, M.D., Ph.D., director of UNMC’s Parkinson’s Disease Clinic, also will speak, and there will be a video presentation.

Dr. Bertoni urged the UNMC community to show its support for the event.

“I would encourage as many people to take part as possible,” he said. “Jon is a great man, and this is a great cause.”

The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union’s Ponderosa Room, on campus at 1013 West 27th St. in Kearney. (Donations can also be made electronically.) Following the event, guests are invited to watch the football game between the UNK Lopers and Lincoln University of Missouri from Suites 310 and 312 of the Nebraskan.

Members of UNMC are invited to attend, but reservations are requested. Kindly RSVP to Neva Klemme at 308-865-8977.
