United Way, Day Three: Why I’m a supporter

Heidi Kaschke

UNMC is currently taking part in the 2013 United Way Campaign. Each week during the campaign, we will feature a member of the UNMC community who is a United Way supporter.

Today, we meet:

  • Name: Heidi Kaschke
  • Department: UNMC High School Alliance

Favorite United Way community partners:

  • Child Saving Institute
  • Women’s Center for Advancement

The running total

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, UNMC achieved:

  • Donations of $47,481, more than 30 percent of the campaign goal of $156,000.
  • Employee participation of 13 percent. Last year, there was 42 percent participation — that should be an easy number to break. Remember, using the UNMC eServ website to choose not to donate counts as participation!

I support the United Way because:
When I was in college, I worked at a shelter for women and their children who were survivors of domestic violence. The shelter received a large portion of their funding from the United Way. Being able to see firsthand what a difference that support meant to the women and children who were rebuilding their lives has stayed with me, and I contribute to the United Way every year.

I found the invite letter for United Way in my junk file. Perhaps others should check their junk e-mail also.
