Two conferences to explore Parkinson’s disease management and care

Persons suffering from Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers can learn about the latest advances in Parkinson’s care at a day-long seminar on Friday, Oct. 11 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 1616 Dodge St., in downtown Omaha.

Driving assessments, management of dystonia and deep brain stimulation are among the topics that will be explored.  The Persons with Parkinson’s and Caregiver Conference is open to the public.

Registration is $25 per person and due by Oct. 7. To register, contact Karen Anderson with the American Parkinson Disease Association at 402-559-8440.

In conjunction with the caregiver conference the second annual Advances in Parkinson’s Care Conference for health professionals also will be held on the same day at the DoubleTree Hotel.

This conference will explore management of cognitive changes in Parkinson’s disease, pharmacological management of non-motor symptoms and fatigue.

It also will feature a keynote address by Alberto J. Espay, M.D., director of clinical research with the James J. and Joan A. Gardner Family Center for Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders at the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute.

While this conference is targeted at health professionals, anyone from the general public is welcome to attend. Health professionals can receive 6.5 continuing education credits for attending and must register by Oct. 1.
