Wellness Wednesday: Riders impress at Corporate Cycling Challenge

Sonja Russell of the Rural Health Education Network, College of Public Health, shows her team spirit.

The Nebraska Medical Center/UNMC team finished a strong second in the AAA division of the 2013 Corporate Cycling Challenge, held Aug. 18.

Organizers said more than 4,400 cyclists participated in the event, which included three tours of 10, 25, and 42 miles, making it the largest one-day bicycle event in the Midwest.

Med center employees logged a total of 3,091 miles, while family members added another 1,006 miles. The second-place finish — less than 200 miles behind the overall winning team — was the med center’s strongest showing since 2010.

Team captain Peter Pellerito called it “a perfect day for pedaling.”
