Lomneth receives UNMC Medical Pioneers Award

Carol Lomneth, Ph.D., genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received the UNMC Medical Pioneers Award. The award, which was created in 2012 by Carol Swarts, M.D., COM '59, was presented to Dr. Lomenth at a May 3 ceremony at the Omaha Press Club.  The award recognizes the importance of basic science teaching faculty in the College of Medicine for enriching the lives of students and shaping outstanding health care providers.

Dr. Swarts also created the Medical Pioneers Award to recognize the contributions and lifelong friendships of three of her female medical school colleagues – Margaret Hancock Peterson, M.D., COM' 59, Marilyn Myers, M.D., COM '59, and Gretchen Glode Berggren, M.D., COM '58 – who were among the first women to go to medical school at UNMC.
