Join us Friday, May 17, for a tribute to Swanson Hall and the former Children’s Memorial Hospital.
The tribute begins at 2:30 p.m. on the east side of the building (southeast corner of Durham Research Plaza and Dewey Street).
UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., will provide remarks, along with Gary Perkins, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital & Medical Center. Refreshments also will be provided.
Swanson Hall will be razed for construction of the comprehensive cancer center, a $370 million project that includes a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic, a 98-lab research tower and a hospital tower with 108 beds dedicated to oncology patients.
The project also includes an ambulatory care strategy based on our vision of a system that will navigate patients through their health care journey with greater focus on wellness and disease prevention and with support throughout the entire continuum of care.
Completion of the cancer center is expected in 2016.
This is bitter sweet. I remember going to Children's Hospital at Swanson Hall when I was young.
The new Cancer Center will be vital for patient care and research.
Swanson Hall was one of the originals of what was once a tiny Nebraska Medical Center, and it was home to many of us for many years. I'm glad it is being given a proper send-off.
