The Nebraska Center for Preparedness Education will host its 11th Annual Preparedness Symposium Series with updates on new developments in the field. Two-day symposia will be held in Norfolk on May 7-8 at the Divots Conference Center, in Lincoln on June 11-12 at the Embassy Suites Downtown and in Kearney on July 16-17 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center.
The series will cover a broad range of topics including response to hurricane Sandy, active shooter issues, pre-hospital decontamination, disaster recovery (Joplin tornado), vector-borne and other diseases.
The symposia is targeted towards health professionals, including public health professionals, first responders, business and industry professionals, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, mental health providers, EMTs, EMSs, paramedics and health educators. Registration fee is $70 for both days or $40 for one day and includes continental breakfast, lunch and continuing education credits.
Symposium speakers will provide an update on public health in Nebraska. They include: Joseph Acierno, M.D., chief medical officer and director of public health for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS) and Jenifer Roberts-Johnson, M.D., chief administrator for NDHHS. Other key speakers include Jono Anzalone, director of government operations, disaster services at the American Red Cross national headquarters; and Jerry McNinch, intelligence officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Nebraska Information Analysis Center.
Among other breakout sessions are subjects such as hospital surge, exercise design, disparities in disaster, and moulage. Continuing education credit is available.
