UNMC physician elected to board of national doctors’ group

Thomas Tape, M.D.

San Francisco, CA, (April 2, 2013) – Thomas  G. Tape, M.D., FACP has been elected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internists.  The Board of Regents manages the business and affairs of ACP and is the main policy-making body of the college.  His term will begin during Internal Medicine 2013, the ACP annual scientific meeting to be held April 11-13 in San Francisco. 

A resident of Omaha, Dr. Tape is professor and vice chair of clinical affairs for the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine. He also serves as chief of the division of general internal medicine.

He is currently serving as chair of the Board of Governors for ACP. Governors are elected by local ACP members and serve four-year terms.  Dr. Tape also will be serving ACP as the chair of the Health & Public Policy Committee during the 2013-2014 year.

Dr. Tape earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.  He completed an internal medicine residency and fellowship at the University of Rochester. 

He has served ACP as chair-elect of the Board of Governors, governor for the Nebraska Chapter, and co-edited “Diagnostic Strategies for Common Medical Problems,” an ACP book.  His surveys of ACP physician members have been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.     

Certified in internal medicine, Dr. Tape has been a fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) since 1991. FACP is an honorary designation that recognizes ongoing individual service and contributions to the practice of medicine. His main areas of professional interest include improving the quality of diagnostic and therapeutic medical decisions, and electronic medical records.  Dr. Tape has served on a medical center task force to study health care reform and provide non-partisan information to the Nebraska region.
