The University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Pharmacy recently received continued accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) for the maximum eight-year period, through June 2021. ACPE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the national agency for the accreditation of professional degree programs in pharmacy.
“This is a superb outcome, and one that is not achieved by all colleges of pharmacy in the United States,” said Courtney Fletcher, Pharm.D., dean of the UNMC College of Pharmacy. “This achievement reflects the contributions and commitments of all our faculty, staff and students to excellence in pharmacy education.”
The accreditation is the ACPE’s seal of approval following a comprehensive review of the college, which culminates in a full-site visit. At the October 2012 site visit, the college was evaluated on 30 different standards reflecting professional and educational qualities that are essential for a college of pharmacy to offer the doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
“This accreditation outcome reflects not just what we have accomplished,” Dr. Fletcher said, “but also the confidence ACPE has, and prospective pharmacy students can have, that the UNMC College of Pharmacy will continue to achieve its mission of providing an outstanding pharmacy education well into the future.”
Dr. Fletcher said the UNMC College of Pharmacy develops medicines to treat the world’s most devastating diseases and prepares pharmacists to thrive in the ever-changing world of health care.
A new $35 million College of Pharmacy and Center for Drug Discovery building is set to begin construction in February 2014.
