UNMC to hold three-part zombie series at Omaha Community Playhouse

Do real life zombies exist? Want to know more about zombies and how to prepare for a zombie apocalypse?

Find out the answers to these questions and more at the Sunday Bloody Sunday conversation series, Feb. 17, March 3 and 10 at the Omaha Community Playhouse, 6915 Cass St.

The conversations take place immediately following the 2 p.m. matinee performance of “Evil Dead: The Musical” and are free to those attending that day’s performance.

Shawn Gibbs, Ph.D., associate dean for student affairs in the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health, and Michael McCaskill, Ph.D., assistant professor in environmental, agricultural and occupational health, will lead the discussion.

They will explore the possibility of a zombie outbreak and how to prepare for one; how infections spread; and how designer drugs cause zombie-like behavior in people who use them.

The dates of the conversations are listed below:

  • Feb. 17: Dr. Gibbs will explore the possibility of a zombie outbreak and how to prepare for it.
  • March 3: Dr. Gibbs will discuss the different types of infection and how they spread.
  • March 10: Dr. McCaskill will explore the possibility that real life zombies do exist because of the use of designer drugs such as bath salts that cause zombie-like behavior.

“Evil Dead: The Musical” runs through March 17 in the Howard Drew Theater at the Omaha Community Playhouse.  Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $40. For more information about the show or to order tickets call: 402-553-0800 or online at www.omahaplayhouse.org
