Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.
UNMC College of Nursing’s Michele Balas, Ph.D., assistant professor, and her colleagues recently presented at the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s 42nd Critical Care Congress. The group’s study results concludes that the ABCDE bundle developed at Vanderbilt University reduces patient delirium and days spent on a ventilator. The bundle has been studied in patients at The Nebraska Medical Center. It includes a delirium assessment tool and calls for care coordination among ICU nurses and respiratory therapists.
James Anderson, Ph.D., professor of biostatistics and associate dean of research, College of Public Health, was elected chairman of the Biostatistics and Epidemiology Council at the Association of Schools of Public Health annual meeting in San Francisco, Calif., in October. The council advises deans of member Schools of Public Health on teaching, competencies and training, and the participation in research and professional services, of epidemiologists and biostatisticians.
Last week, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents elected Tim Clare as chairman for 2013. Clare, of Lincoln, represents District 1 and was elected to the Board in 2008. He served as vice chairman in 2012. Regent Howard Hawks of Omaha, who represents District 2, was elected vice chairman for 2013.
