“Dr. LaGrange is an enthusiastic, up-and-coming surgical leader at UNMC, who is ready to enhance and grow the UNMC Urology Division into the 21st century,” said David W. Mercer, M.D., chairman and the McLaughlin Professor of Surgery in the department of surgery. “The search for new frontiers in surgical research, training, and technical expertise continues, and we are sure that Dr. LaGrange will be a harbinger for the future.

“With UNMC’s plans for a comprehensive cancer center and the important role that urology plays in the treatment of cancer, we are indeed fortunate to have Dr. LaGrange and his family’s commitment to Nebraska.”

Dr. Mercer praised Dr. LaGrange for being the only fellowship-trained laparoscopic urologist on the UNMC faculty and one of only three such urologists in the state of Nebraska.

Dr. LaGrange — who joined the UNMC faculty in 2008 — succeeds George Hemstreet, M.D., who served as division chief for eight years before he stepped down in October 2010.
