A new multidisciplinary clinic has been established to provide a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for a wide variety of non-malignant pancreatic and biliary diseases, in particular acute and chronic pancreatitis.
Called the UNMC Comprehensive Pancreatobiliary Disorder and Autologous Islet Transplantation Clinic, the clinic is composed of physicians from the departments of gastroenterology, surgery and endocrinology, as well as nutritionists and social workers. Each patient receives a personalized plan of care based on team member discussions.
Participating physicians include: Shailender Singh, M.D., gastroenterology; Grant Hutchins, M.D., gastroenterology; Luciano Vargas Jr., M.D., surgery; and Brian Boerner, M.D., endocrinology.
Located in the Multi-Organ Transplant Center on the second floor of the Lied Transplant Center, the clinic also will offer autologous islet transplantation for patients deemed to be candidates for total pancreatectomy for benign indications, most commonly intractable pain related to pancreatitis.
