Dental Museum open house set for next week

The UNMC College of Dentistry’s museum of dental artifacts will be open to the public next week for free with tours.

This and other dental office displays that depict what such offices would have looked like at various points in time can be viewed during free tours of the UNMC dental museum next week.(Peggy Cain, College of Dentistry)

The collection will be displayed in Room 1431 and adjacent hallways, on the lower level of the UNMC College of Dentistry at 40th and Holdrege streets in Lincoln. Thousands of dental artifacts will be on display in one of the largest collections in the U.S.; including:

• Six period offices from the 1850s to the 1930s and more than 35 dental cabinets;
  
• Several dental chairs dating from 1840 to 1880;
  
• A collection of tooth extraction instruments dating from the 1500s; and
  
• X-ray machines and instruments.

The tour schedule is:

• Sept. 10 — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  
• Sept. 11 — 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  
• Sept. 12 — 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  
• Sept. 13 — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  
• Sept. 14 — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  
• Sept. 15 — 8 a.m. to noon
