Harvard physician named chairman of otolaryngology/head and neck surgery at UNMC

Dwight Jones, M.D.

 

Dwight Jones, M.D. has accepted the position of chairman of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. The appointment is effective July 1.

He is currently associate professor, otology and laryngology, for Harvard Medical School, and a full-time member of the medical staff of Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Jones has served on the Harvard faculty for nearly 24 years. A pediatric otolaryngologist, his areas of research and clinical expertise include sinonasal disorders, cystic fibrosis and tonsillectomy complications.

“Dr. Jones is a highly regarded pediatric otolaryngologist with broad experience at one of the premier ENT programs in the country,” said Bradley Britigan, M.D., dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. “He’s an outstanding clinician with strong Nebraska roots. He brings a high level of knowledge and will be able to integrate it well into our medical center environment. With his strong background, we look for him to further our partnerships with The Nebraska Medical Center and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.” 

A 1983 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, Dr. Jones did his internship and residency

in general surgery at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. He then returned to UNMC to do his otolaryngology residency and served a year as chief resident before doing a pediatric fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Jones has held many leadership roles including director of the Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship Program and director of the Medical Education Department of Otolaryngology at Boston Children’s Hospital.  He also is a senior advisor and a member of the hospital’s Satellite Governing Board, which oversees and manages six large satellite facilities.
