The employees were honored for terms of service in 5-year increments.
The three who started 45-years ago were:
  • Penny Horner Sullivan of the Munroe-Meyer Institute;
  • Rod Lugert of Information Technology Services; and
  • Joe Pecha of Facilities Management.

They started at UNMC in 1967 — the year of “The Summer of Love,” the release of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and Cassius Clay’s loss of his heavyweight boxing title after his refusal to join the Army.

Along with our 45-year honorees, UNMC also recognized five employees for 40 years of service. Those employees were:

  • Phyllis Anding of the College of Medicine;
  • Pat Araujo of Information Technology Services;
  • Sherry Cherek of the College of Public Health;
  • Daniel Jacques of the College of Medicine; and
  • John Larson of Facilities Management and Planning.
