Twenty-eight students from nine different undergraduate and community college programs have joined the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program this summer.

- Expose students to serious biomedical research;
- Build a statewide biomedical research infrastructure between undergraduate and graduate institutions; and
- Strengthen each undergraduate institution’s infrastructure and increase its capacity to conduct cutting-edge biomedical and behavioral research.
Below, we get to know more about INBRE scholar Daniel Cloonan.
- Name: Daniel Cloonan

- School: University of Nebraska-Lincoln
My interest in science started in childhood. I would spend entire weeks walking in circles around my grandparents’ pond, catching frogs, fish and turtles. There was something so fascinating about these creatures to me. This built up as I grew older and was perpetuated by a series of truly wonderful science teachers. College has only made things more intense. Getting involved in research has been such a pleasure, as has working with peers and Ph.D.’s who also love it as much as I do.
Without a doubt, I intend to pursue a career in the life sciences. By participating in INBRE, I hope to get a chance to further my understanding of biology and science as a whole, as well as build a background in the more technical side of research.
