Today is the final day for Lotus Notes at UNMC, which means tomorrow morning when you come to work, you’ll no longer be able to access your Lotus accounts.
Today is the final day that familiar Lotus Notes icon will grace our computer screens at UNMC. |
It’s at times like these that I’m reminded of a song my father-in-law likes to sing when unwelcome guests leave his house (sung to the tune of “A-hunting we will go”):
We hate to see you go.
We hate to see you go.
What are you waiting for?
We hate to see you go.
And in that spirit, we’d like to give all UNMC employees a chance to share their final thoughts about Lotus Notes.
So go ahead — comment on this story and let it all out.
Tell us what you really thought of our old email system — we ask only that you keep it clean.
And check back with this story throughout the day, this could get funny.
""SAMETIME" did you know that you could add video snippets to your SAMETIME message? this came in handy when you wanted to express yourself to a co-worker… Yep I really miss SAMETIME !
It was nice while it lasted,
And now we must say goodbye
It is not you, it's me…I lie
Take our secrets with you when you die.
Goodbye, old Lotus, we cry….. Goodbye.
Dot Northwall

I assume that lotus positions will no longer be encouraged on campus.
Going from Lotus Notes to Outlook is like upgrading from a an old Dodge Neon to a new Cadillac, especially on mobile devices.
Like everything we like to see go away, there will be a time when we think back and say Lotus Notes wasn't so bad.
In the immortal words of the Beatles: You say, "Yes." I say, "No." You say, "Stop." I say, "Go, go, go!" 🙂 Actually, LN got the job done, although Outlook gets it done a little nicer. And now that we have Lync, I can say I'm a happy camper.
Adieu, Au revoir, Adios, Ciao, Auf Wiedersehen, Sayonara, Adeus, Arrivederci, and Goodbye!

"Lotus is going away?? No one told me!!" Says the ITS Administrator
high school email project is gone… off to more modern technology
I can see that everyone seemed to hate Lotus Notes, but is Outlook REALLY all that much better? Why do I have to type in unmc_domain EVERY TIME I check email from an on campus computer? Why can't I forward messages to a email system that works better for me? I could with Lotus Notes, but Outlook is facist, and won't let me. Lotus Notes was a broken system, but I was able to make it work. Now I have to learn a whole new broken system. *sigh*
The institution’s communications would have been better served by a fleet of carrier pigeons than it was by Lotus Notes.
I would much rather stick with Lotus notes than Outlook. I'm not a Microsoft fan.
