UNMC College of Dentistry offers free seminar to dentists and dental hygienists

When faculty from the UNMC College of Dentistry hit the road May 7, it will mark the 25th anniversary of the annual dental education caravan in which the college provides free seminars to practicing dental health professionals.

Since 1988 more than 8,000 dental health professionals across the state have had the opportunity to earn 350 continuing education credits, while learning about the latest theories, techniques and scientific advances in dentistry.

“We at the College of Dentistry are proud of this long tradition of delivering highquality continuing dental education to our dental alumni across the state,” said John Reinhardt, D.D.S., dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry. “Twenty-five years is a significant milestone, but the enthusiasm with which we are welcomed annually makes this trip more a joy than a chore for those who participate. We consider our alumni part of the College of Dentistry family.”

This year dental health professionals in four Nebraska communities will learn about medical emergency management and how to diagnose and treat patients whose teeth are severely worn down.

The caravan will stop in Ashland, Grand Island, North Platte and Scottsbluff. Presentations will be given by Lindsay Mundil, D.D.S., and Paul Hansen, D.D.S. Those who attend receive 3.5 hours of free continuing dental education credit.

In addition, Dr. John Reinhardt will present a brief update on education, research, patient care and outreach activities at the college. Dr. Reinhardt is available for media interviews following the presentations. However, due to a prior engagement he will not be at the North Platte seminar.

The programs will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at each of the following locations:

May 8 – North Platte, Quality Inn & Suites

May 9 – Scottsbluff, Harms Advanced Technology Center at Western Nebraska Community College

May 10 – Grand Island, Interstate Holiday Inn

The agenda at each location is as follows:

1 p.m. – Greeting and introduction by Merlyn Vogt, D.D.S., assistant professor in the department of surgical specialties.

1:10 p.m. – UNMC College of Dentistry update by Dean John Reinhardt, D.D.S.
