Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing, was re-elected to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing board as secretary. She will serve in that role for two years beginning this year.
Prior to being named dean in 2011, she served as dean of the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Nursing (2006-2011) and in several capacities at the University of Kentucky, including assistant dean for advanced practice nursing and co-director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
Dr. Sebastian has served the AACN as chair of the task force on the Master’s Essential Tool Kit and as a member of the task force on the Essentials of Nursing Education for the Doctor of Nursing Practice.
The AACN establishes and helps implement quality standards for nursing education, works with nursing professionals to improve health care and promote public support for professional nursing education, research, and practice.
Founded in 1917, the UNMC College of Nursing offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in nursing. The college has about 1,000 students enrolled and is located in five locations across Nebraska: Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk.
