Denim for Disabilities set for Jan. 17-Feb. 3

The Meyer Foundation for Disabilities, sponsor of the Feb. 19 Walk and Roll for Disabilities, has organized the fourth annual “Denim for Disabilities” campaign.

What: Purchase a “Denim for Disabilities” sticker for $1 and you can wear jeans to work for a day.

When: The campaign starts Jan. 17 and ends Feb. 3.

Why: Proceeds support UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute recreational therapy programs for adults with disabilities. All donations go toward recreational events such as dances and bike rides for adults with disabilities. Hundreds of families benefit from these services each year.

Why part 2: The recreation therapy department at MMI receives no designated state or federal funding, so the support of various endowments, foundations and people make it possible to provide these services to families.

Participate: Contact Rick Boldt at rhboldt@unmc.edu or 559-4100 to set up a “Denim for Disabilities” day in your department and obtain stickers. Those who already have a designated casual dress day can contribute by donating $1 and wearing the sticker. Groups of all sizes are welcome to participate. Each participating organization will be recognized at the 2012 Walk and Roll event.
