Otis Brawley, M.D., chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society, recently was on campus to meet with several UNMC faculty members. Dr. Brawley worked as a fellow for Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center when Dr. Cowan was at the National Cancer Institute. While at UNMC, Dr. Brawley met with:
- Dr. Cowan;
- Brad Britigan, M.D., dean of the College of Medicine;
- Julie Vose, M.D., the Neumann M. and Mildred E. Harris Professorial Chair and chief of section of hematology/oncology;
- Jean Grem, M.D., professor of oncology/hematology;
- Phil Bierman,M.D., professor of oncology/hematology;
- Apar Ganti, M.D., associate professor of oncology/hematology;
- Mike Brattain, Ph.D., professor and associate director for basic research in the Eppley Institute;
- Kay-Uwe Wagner, Ph.D., professor in the Eppley Institute;
- Marcel DeVetten, M.D., adjunct associate professor of internal medicine; and
- Matt Winfrey, associate director for administration at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.
Nanci Borg, the College of Nursing’s academic programs unit administrator, has been invited to serve on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) National NursingCAS Advisory Group. NursingCAS is the centralized application service used nationally for students who apply to registered nursing programs in the U.S.
The Great Plains Public Health Leadership Institute, a professional development program of the College of Public Health, graduated its sixth class of scholars this fall. The year-long program builds and enhances leadership skills for established and emerging leaders in the region’s public health systems. View a full list of the graduates.
