Actors take audience on a humorous life journey

The people they portray may be fictitious but the issues they discuss hit close to home.

Larry Jay Tish, right, and Ron Jones will entertain and enlighten in Thursday’s presentation of “The Black-Jew Diaries” in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.

Larry Jay Tish and Ron Jones spend three days in a cheap hotel room and discuss their life experiences. The play, known as “The Black-Jew Dialogues,” explores the history and absurdity of prejudice and racism and why there has been a growing rift between blacks and Jews since the early 1970s.

A show that has gained praise across the United States and United Kingdom, “The Black-Jew Dialogues” combines fast-paced sketches, improvisations and multi-media to help the audience gain insight to the true nature of prejudice and how our inability to face our own biases separate us in ways that we may not even think about.

It is, at times, a hilarious look at the differences and similarities of both groups.
