Student spotlight – Joseph Chiweshe

Education is one of the four pillars of UNMC’s mission and our students are the lifeblood of that aspect of campus life.

In UNMC Today’s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who are training to become tomorrow’s health care professionals.

Today we meet Joseph Chiweshe, a fourth-year College of Medicine student.

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

It would have to be a tie because the switch into the clinical years and getting to put what we were learning into practice was a great transition and memory. However, at this week’s Ruth and Bill Scott student plaza dedication I got to meet Warren Buffett, which was pretty cool.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

The core value I see embodied most at UNMC is leadership. There is no one time that stands out because it is a recurring theme that is part of the culture here. It is constant and at every level of the organization. From the administration, educators, to all the care providers and staff it is evident and great to be a part of.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I was born in Zimbabwe.
  • My favorite sport is soccer, which I started in early grade school.
  • I love to travel.

I had the opportunity to work with Joseph when he was a TA for the SMDEP Program, and he is an exceptional person. He is a wonderful ambassador for UNMC and will be a phenomenal physician!
