What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

My best memory is of the physical and academic transformation that has taken place at UNMC during the past 30 years. It has been thrilling to contribute to the success of such a vibrant organization.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

A striking example of working together is the business continuity team. I represent the research community on the team, which develops plans to ensure that the critical missions of both UNMC and The Nebraska Medical Center can continue in the event of a disaster of any kind. This group consists of representatives from all major units. It is amazing to realize that it takes each one of us, contributing our unique knowledge and expertise, in order to create an adequate solution. Periodically, this diverse group conducts drills to evaluate and improve the plans.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • At the age of 8, my family moved from Malone, N.Y., to Los Angeles, Calif., to live near my father’s relatives. Even though we returned to Rochester four years later, I’ve considered myself a California girl.
  • I like to learn new things and stick to them long enough to develop a measurable level of proficiency. I can call myself a flute player, a seamstress, a middle-eastern (aka belly) dancer and a figure skater. In April, I earned second and fourth place medals at the 2011 United States Figure Skating Adult National Championships where adults compete with others of the same age and skill level.
  • I am married to a clown who loves to golf. Together we have three terrific children; twin daughters now 17 and a son who graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in December and landed his first “real” job in March.
