Today John Benson, M.D., will attend his last Music as Medicine concert as a UNMC faculty member.
John Benson, M.D. |
Over the past seven years, the series has brought some of the area’s finest musicians to campus for monthly concerts. Genres such as classical, jazz, bluegrass and choral music have been featured during the free concerts.
So before or after you take in today’s soothing sounds provided by members of the Omaha Chamber Music Society, take a minute to thank Dr. Benson for bringing Music as Medicine to UNMC.
Though I was only able to listen to a few minutes of one or two "concerts" (My lunch 1/2 hour was over before these started), I want to thank you for thinking of the human spirit side of things. Too many people don't realize that the human spirit plays a huge part in health care.
"Music as Medicine" is one of many contributions that Dr. Benson had made to our UNMC campus community. In addition to chairing crucial health care reform and accreditation projects, John has served with distinction as an adviser, mentor, and role model to countless medical students, faculty, and staff. Above all else, Dr. Benson has been a consistently wise, kind, and compassionate presence for all of us who have had the pleasure of working with him over the past few years. He will be missed greatly!
