A daughter, her father, their culture and health care

Today’s Schwartz Center Rounds will feature a panel discussion focused on American Indian spirituality and how it interacts with health care.

One of the panelists will be Lisa Prue Spellman — a writer and media specialist in public relations and the daughter of Ronald Joseph Prue — a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

Ronald Joseph Prue, his treatment for cancer and how it interacted with his spirituality as a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

Prue died this year of cancer. The seminar will focus on his treatment and care and how it interacted with his spirituality and other aspects of his life.

Those who wish to attend are encouraged to read this account by Spellman regarding her father’s journey.

Joining Spellman for today’s discussion, which starts at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005, will be:

• Michael Feloney, M.D. — a UNMC urologist who treated Prue;
  
• Jessica Shaw — a nurse at The Nebraska Medical Center; and
  
• Wendell Bird Head — Ogalala Lakota spiritual leader.

Lunch will be provided for the first 100 attendees at the seminar.
