Beware of phishing attack of campus e-mail

UNMC employees be advised:

A phishing scam has targeted the UNMC Lotus Notes system. The scam warms recipients that their mailboxes have exceeded the allowed storage limit and notes that employees may not be able to send or retrieve new messages. It then asks recipients to click on a link, which asks for their e-mail username, e-mail address and password.

The e-mail may be from Kathleen Burns at KBurns@memorialcare.org and the subject line may say “RE: Upgrade service [error code 823ht].”

This e-mail is NOT from ITS. Please do not fall for this scam. ITS never asks for account information via e-mail.

If you get an e-mail with this sort of notification with instructions to click on a link or to enter your information, DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY.

If you have questions or if you HAVE responded to this scam, please contact the UNMC ITS Helpdesk right away at 402-559-7700 or helpdesk@unmc.edu.
