An e-mail address, budgetsavings@unmc.edu, has been set up for employees to submit ideas.

The goal of the initiative, named “Act Today, Impact Tomorrow,” is to improve financial performance by 15 percent during the next three years, collectively across the three entities.

Fifteen teams, all with members from each organization, are working to seek out opportunities to improve efficiency and enhance the quality of patient care.

“We know that changes are coming as result of numerous factors, including health care reform and uncertainty with our state appropriation,” said Rod Markin, M.D., Ph.D., interim dean of the College of Medicine. “Instead of ignoring these realities, we are embracing this change and acting proactively to make our services as efficient as possible.

“We can become more efficient, but we need the help of everyone. From conserving energy, to making careful purchases or working to streamline a system, we can control the success of the medical center.”
