Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee to feature.
This week, we feature Kathy Burke, research associate in physical therapy education in the School of Allied Health Professions.
Here, in her own words, are five “absolutely true” facts about Kathy:

- I have two wonderful daughters and one fabulous bike.
- My favorite vacation ever was hiking the Appalachian Trail. Yes, it really was the Appalachian Trail.
- When I was 7-years-old, I began accordion lessons. I thought I was quite talented, but my teacher thought otherwise. After a few months he fled to California, with the accordion.
- Because my dream to become a famous accordion player was crushed so cruelly, I decided to become a neuroscientist.
- I first met Dr. Jack Turman five years ago when I moved to Los Angeles to work for him (and track down that accordion). When Dr. Turman came to UNMC in July to become director of physical therapy education, I came too. Someone told me that Omaha winters are lovely and tropical, with balmy evening breezes. But I’m growing increasingly skeptical. And where are the accordions?
