Quick, think of five things others should know about you.
That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.” Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee to feature.
This week, we feature Karla Contreras, bilingual clinic clerk in the College of Dentistry.
Here, in her own words, are some fun facts about Karla:
Karla Contreras |
- It’s ironic that I work in a dental clinic now. When I was a child the worst place I could be in was the doctor or the dentist office. I would just panic! Every time I saw blood or had blood drawn, I would pass out. I’ve learned over the years that it’s all in my head and I’ve learned to control my emotions, so I do much better now.
- I am originally from Baja California, Mexico, but have lived in Omaha most of my life. I became a U.S. citizen a few years ago, which is one of my great accomplishments.
- I come from a family of singers and guitar players so I love to sing, particularly as part of the worship choir in the church that I attend.
- I have an associate’s degree in multimedia and I plan to start my own business in graphics and design.
- My husband and I went to Kansas for our “honeymoon” and we went to Worlds of Fun. It turns out that the date was 06-06-06 and everyone was just talking about how something terrible might happen to the roller coasters on this date because of the significance the number “666” has. It was a big commotion but we had a lot of fun anyway. I love roller coasters!
